A quick reference for reading a chart. Treat each line as a tendency to confirm, never as a verdict.

Each section is tagged by where its rules come from: Classical (the texts) or Traditional (long-standing practitioner use, in line with the texts).

Which houses to check for a question Traditional

Start with these houses and planets, then confirm with the sign, strength, aspects and running Dasha.

Love marriage (Prem Vivah)
5th + 7th houses, with Venus (शुक्र); Rahu (राहु) adds an unconventional element
Government job
Sun (सूर्य) + 10th house + 10th lord
Income from business
2nd + 11th houses (wealth and gains), 7th (trade and partnership) and 10th (profession)
Settling abroad
12th + 9th houses with Rahu (राहु); the 4th shows leaving the homeland
Property and construction
4th house + Mars (मंगल), with the 11th for gains
Children (Santan Sukh)
5th + 9th houses + Jupiter (गुरु) (the children-karaka)

Nature of the spouse: who sits in the 7th house Traditional

The 7th house shows the partner. Read its occupant first; if it is empty, read where the 7th lord is placed.

Benefics (Jupiter, Venus (शुक्र), Mercury (बुध))
Loving, sensible and supportive.
Moon (चंद्र)
Emotional and caring; gives importance to home and family.
Venus (शुक्र)
Attractive, sociable and romantic.
Mars (मंगल)
Energetic and brave; quick to anger but clean-hearted.
Saturn (शनि)
Serious, responsible, patient and mature in behaviour.
Rahu (राहु)
Mysterious, an independent thinker, can be stubborn at times.
Ketu (केतु)
Spiritually inclined, quiet, with a deep inner life.
Strong 7th lord
Balanced, loyal and a steady companion through life.
Malefic aspect on the 7th
Can be irritable, stubborn or hard to reach in understanding.

These are tendencies. The sign, aspects and Navamsha change how each placement shows up.
