Vastu Directions: What Goes Where

The eight directions and the centre, with what each one governs, what suits it and what to avoid.

How to find your directions. Stand at the centre of the house and take a compass reading (a phone compass works, held flat and away from metal). Note which way North falls on your floor plan. Directions here are read from the centre of the home, not from the front door. To check your main door, use the Vastu Direction Calculator.

Money and Metal by Direction

For example, North is the main money direction (Kubera) and takes brass or bronze. Members see the full money map, with where money comes in, stays and leaves, and the metal for all nine directions.

Best for
Main entrance, living room, study, cash and accounts, an open balcony or lawn.
Avoid
Toilet, kitchen, heavy storage, a dark or blocked space, a tall wall that cuts the light.
Colours
Green, light blue.
Remedy
Keep it light and open. Place the cash box or accounts here, facing North. A small water bowl or fresh plants help.

North-Eastईशान

Jupiter (Guru)WaterIshana (Shiva)

Wisdom, prayer and clarity. The most sacred zone.

Best for
Puja room, meditation corner, drinking water, a light verandah, a small water source.
Avoid
Toilet, kitchen, stairs, heavy storage, a dustbin, a cut or missing corner.
Colours
Pale yellow, white, light blue.
Remedy
Keep it clean, cool and uncluttered. If a corner is cut, correct it first, then add light and a lamp.
