How to Chant

A mantra works best when it is chanted with a calm mind, a steady voice and regular practice. There is no need to rush or to chant for hours.

  1. Bathe, wear clean clothes and sit on a mat or folded cloth.
  2. Light a lamp or incense if you like, and face east or north.
  3. Start with the simple mantra. Move to the beej mantra only when the simple one feels easy.
  4. Chant 108 times (one mala). If you are short on time, chant 11 times and keep it regular.
  5. Chant on the planet's day. Be steady for at least 40 days.
Please remember: Mantras support you; they do not replace proper guidance. Which planet to chant for depends on your own chart. Ask your astrologer before you begin a long practice. Rahu (राहु), Ketu (केतु) and Saturn (शनि) mantras are best chanted calmly and in the evening.
