Vastu Purusha
The being on whom the plan of a home rests.
- What it means
- In the traditional story, a being called Vastu Purusha lies face down on the plot with his head in the North-East and his feet in the South-West. Forty-five devtas hold him in place, and every part of the home belongs to one of them.
- Why it matters
- It explains the zones. Because the head is North-East, that corner should be light and clean. Because the feet are South-West, that corner should be firm and heavy.
- In practice
- You do not need to memorise the 45 devtas. Start with the nine-part plan: the eight directions and the centre.
