Room-by-Room Vastu

Where each room belongs, what to avoid and one practical tip for each.

How to use this page. Start with the rooms that carry the most weight: the main door, the kitchen, the master bedroom and the puja room. A perfect fit for every room is rare, so correct the biggest points first.

Room by Room

Living Room

Best zone
North, North-East or East.
Also fine
North-West.
Avoid
The South-West, which is better kept for the master bedroom.
Placement tip
Sit facing North or East. Put heavy sofas and shelves against the South and West walls, and keep the North-East light.

Kitchen

Best zone
South-East, the zone of Agni (fire).
Also fine
North-West.
Avoid
The North-East, the centre and the South-West. Do not place it beside or facing a toilet.
Placement tip
Cook facing East. Keep the sink in the North-East of the kitchen, away from the stove. Put the fridge on the South-West or West side.

Zones follow the 16-point compass, so a room in the wrong main direction may still sit in a good zone. For a room-by-room review of your own plan, book a Vastu consultation.
