Plot Shapes, Roads & Colours

How the shape of a plot, the road beside it and the colours inside it are read in Vastu.

Shape comes first, because a regular plot is easier to balance. Then the road, then the slope, and only then the colours. Use this page together with the Plot & Land Checklist.

Plot Shapes

Plot shapeRatingWhy
SquareBestEven energy in all directions.
RectangleVery goodComfortable up to about 1:2. Very long plots are harder to balance.
Gomukhi (narrow front, wide back)Good for a homeCalled cow-faced. Traditionally favoured for a residence.
Simhamukhi (wide front, narrow back)Good for businessCalled lion-faced. Traditionally favoured for a shop or office rather than a home.
L-shapedNeeds careA missing corner creates a cut. Check which corner is missing.
Triangular, round or ovalAvoidPointed or curved plots leave unbalanced corners.
Irregular or wedgeAvoidThe zones are hard to define. Correct the shape with a boundary wall first.

Roads, Slope and Colours

For example, a road on the North-East side is the most favourable, while a road only on the South-West is the hardest case. Members see the rating for all eight sides, the slope and open-space rules, and colours for every room.

These are traditional guidelines. A survey, council rules and the character of the neighbourhood matter as much. Confirm with a Vastu consultation before you decide.
