The 27 Nakshatra Profiles

One profile for each Nakshatra: strengths, challenges, relationships, career fit and the deeper lesson, with each Pada explained.

Important Jyotish note. A Nakshatra should not be read as a fixed personality label. The Moon (चंद्र)’s Nakshatra (your Janma Nakshatra) is especially important for mind and emotional pattern, but a proper chart interpretation also considers the Lagna, the Nakshatra of the Lagna degree, the Nakshatras occupied by the Grahas, their lords, dignity, aspects, dashas and the relevant houses.

Gana, Yoni and Nadi are traditional classifications, especially important in compatibility work. Colour associations are traditional, commonly used associations and can vary by lineage.

How to Use This Guide

  • Start with the Moon (चंद्र)’s Nakshatra to understand the emotional and instinctive layer.
  • Then look at the Lagna Nakshatra for the way the person approaches life and presents themselves.
  • For a specific life area, examine the Nakshatra occupied by the relevant Graha and the house involved.
  • Never call a Nakshatra simply good or bad — every Nakshatra has a higher expression and a shadow expression.
  • Use the Pada as a second layer. Each Nakshatra has four padas of 3°20′, and each pada corresponds to a Navamsha sign.
